The United States Supreme Court Building Commission selected James Earle Fraser to sculpt two statues beside the steps of the entrance to the Supreme Court Building. Fraser completed preliminary models in 1933 and over the next year, he continued to hone his work. The sculptures were installed in 1935, a month after the building opened.

These US Supreme Court Landmark Figurines are made of designer composite polystone resin mixed with bronze powder, hand painted and polished. Polystone which is composed of polyurethane, resin, and mixed with powdered stone additives that give it added weight and a porcelain or “stone-like” feel. Polystone is very durable and delivers a cleaner, more substantial representation of an original sculpture than other common materials.
“Contemplation of Justice” was created by sculptor James Earle Fraser. The statue features a woman seated with a tiny figure in her right hand representing Justice. This statue can be found at the Washington DC Supreme Court Building.
The Authority of Law, also called the Guardian or Executor of Law, is a reproduction of the famous US Supreme Court Sculpture done by James Fraser. He described the male figure to the right of the steps as “powerful, erect, and vigilant. He waits with concentrated attention, holding in his left hand the tablet of laws, backed by the sheathed sword, symbolic of enforcement through law.” The Latin word for law, LEX, is inscribed on the table
